Research Notes

  • There has been some speculation as to whether she is the same person as Elizabeth Francina (du Preez) Rossouw (abt.1790-) who is currently listed as the mother of Daniel Petrus Rossouw (1814-). According to the SAG Registers Daniel Petrus was the first child of her husband Gabriel Josua (b9c1d6e5f1 Daniel Petrus George 14.2.1814) but on his baptism record his mother is listed as Elisabeth Fransina du Preez not de/du Bruyn. At that time he was married to this "Elizabeth Francina de Bruyn". Also, the mother of this Elizabeth Francina is a "du Preez", so it is quite likely that the incorrect surname (the grandmother's) was put down on her son's baptism record. It should also be noted that the son "Daniel Petrus" does not appear on her Probate record, so it is likely that he died young. I am therefore pretty certain that the profile Elizabeth Francina (du Preez) Rossouw (abt.1790-) should be merged into this one with the LNAB left as "de Bruyn". De Bruyn-1059 and Du Preez-2386 appear to represent the same person because: Refer Research Note on De_Bruyn-1059. It seems the du Preez profile was created due to an incorrect surname for the mother being listed on the baptism of the son (Rossouw-1094). Target should be De_Bruyn-1059.

This profile got her last name, du Preez, from the baptism entry of her son, Daniel Petrus. However, I suspect the scribe made a mistake in that entry and that it should be de Bruyn, i.e. this profile should be merged with De_Bruyn-1059. The only (flimsy) evidence I have for this at this point is that Hendrik Johannes de Bruin and Hester Anna du Plessis (and perhaps Gerrid van Rooyen)) were witnesses at the baptisms of both Daniel Petrus Rossouw (1814-) and his younger brother Hendrik Jeremias Rossouw (1816-1906)
